Composite Dental Fillings (Tooth Colored Fillings)
A composite filling is a tooth-colored restoration that our dentist uses to repair minor decay, fractures, or cracks. These tooth-colored fillings are matched to the color of your existing teeth for a naturally beautiful smile. In just one appointment at Douglas Family Dental, Dr. Jasjit Sidhu will remove the decay, clean the existing tooth, and place the tooth-colored filling. Contact our office at 508- 476-2828 today if you are interested in receiving composite dental fillings.
A dental filling is a restoration used to repair minor to moderate tooth damage. We may recommend a filling if your tooth has been damaged by tooth decay (for example, if your tooth has a cavity), or if your tooth suffers from minor fracturing or chipping. The dental filling is used to restore the tooth to its original structure and function and to return your smile to good health. There are two main types of dental fillings available: amalgam fillings and composite fillings.
The process for placing a filling requires just one comfortable visit to our office. Our dentist will first remove the decayed and damaged portion of your tooth, and then clean the tooth to remove all traces of decay. We then fill the tooth with the filling material and shape it to match your tooth’s shape. Finally, the filling is hardened for a lasting restoration.
If your tooth is decayed or damaged, a dental filling may be a great choice for restoring your oral health and function. We invite you to call or visit us today to learn more about dental fillings and to schedule your next appointment with our team. We look forward to caring for your smile!
Complete Dentures & Partial Dentures
Losing all your teeth in the upper or lower jaw can be a daunting thought. If your dentist has found that your teeth cannot be saved, or if you are already missing all or most of your teeth, dentures may be a viable solution. With dentures, you can restore the ability to speak and chew normally, and smile without embarrassment.
Unlike conventional dentures, immediate dentures are made in advance and can be positioned as soon as the teeth are removed. As a result, the wearer does not have to be without teeth during the healing period. However, bones and gums shrink over time, especially during the healing period following tooth removal. Therefore, a disadvantage of immediate dentures compared with conventional dentures is that they require more adjustments to fit properly during the healing process and generally should only be considered a temporary solution until conventional dentures can be made.
Partial or full Dentures
Dentures are often a removable prosthetic that sits on top of the gums in place of your natural teeth. They can be full – to replace all teeth on the top or bottom – or partial, to replace several teeth. When you are missing teeth, dentures can work to return your life and your appearance to normal. In the past, dentures may have been more noticeable and had a “fake” appearance but when designed by a quality dentist such dentures can closely resemble natural teeth, eliminating the embarrassment of having those around you know you are wearing them. In addition, while dentures have had a reputation of fitting poorly or moving, rocking, or sliding in the mouth, your dentist can actually implant posts into the jaw to anchor the dentures so they become more permanent and any movement is eliminated.
If you are facing a diagnosis of needing to have your teeth removed, or are already missing all or most of your teeth because of decay or damage, please call Douglas Family Dental at 508-476-2828 and schedule an appointment with our dentist, Dr. Jasjit Sidhu to find out how today’s dentures can fit your lifestyle and your budget.
Root Canal Therapy
When significant infection or decay reaches the inner nerve of a tooth, our dentist, Dr. Jasjit Sidhu, may recommend a root canal. Root canal therapy is used to restore function and health to the tooth. In many cases, root canal therapy is the preferred choice over tooth extraction because it allows you to keep the tooth and will not cause any harm to the surrounding teeth. For more information, we invite you to call Douglas Family Dental at 508-476-2828 to schedule an appointment with our dentist.
Commonly called a root canal, root canal treatment is a type of endodontic therapy that is often recommended if the tooth pulp and nerves become infected or damaged. This may occur if injury or decay reaches deep into the tooth, past the outer enamel layer. When left untreated, this type of infection and disease may cause the tooth to die and necessitate tooth extraction. To restore the health of the tooth and avoid the need for extraction, our skilled dentist will remove the infected and injured tissues from within the tooth, clean the tooth, and fill it with a medicated material. We will then cap the tooth with a restoration, such as a dental crown, to return the tooth to its original shape and structure. In most cases, a root canal can be completed in only one or two comfortable visits to our office.
Root canal treatment has a reputation for being a painful treatment. In reality, however, root canal treatment can often be completed with minimal discomfort thanks to advanced techniques, tools, and anesthesia. Our dentist, along with our entire dental team, works hard to provide you with a pleasant, comfortable experience each time you visit our office. To learn more about root canal treatment, we welcome you to contact us today. We are dedicated to restoring your smile’s health.
In certain circumstances, it may be necessary to have one or more permanent teeth extracted (pulled). Tooth extraction is often our last resort when attempting to maintain your oral health; if at all possible, our dentist will recommend another dental treatment to get you back to optimal oral health. Prior to deciding on an extraction, it is essential that you consult with Dr. Jasjit Sidhu to answer your questions and help you take charge of your oral health. If you would like to learn more about tooth extraction, or if you are experiencing any pain in the gums or teeth, please call Douglas Family Dental at 508-476-2828 as soon as possible.
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth. While we strive to avoid the need to remove a tooth whenever possible, certain conditions may make tooth extraction the most effective option for returning your smile to good health and function. Following the tooth extraction, we are happy to provide you with one of our excellent tooth replacement treatments, if needed, to restore your smile to optimal health, beauty, and function.
Several conditions may necessitate tooth extraction. Among these are:
- Severe infection that has destroyed a significant portion of the tooth and supporting bone structure
- Serious decay that has damaged a tooth beyond repair, making a successful restoration impossible
- Crowding caused by too many teeth to properly fit in the mouth
Our dentist uses great care and skill when performing a tooth extraction to ensure that your dental experience is as comfortable and painless as possible. We will also provide you with detailed post-treatment care instructions so you can properly take care of your smile as it heals.
